The Dream Lives On
This blog is dedicated to a dear friend, Dakota "KC" Ellis Davidson, who made it her mission in life to train ordinary untrained individuals like myself how to properly color and care for their hair right in the comfort of their own homes… we call ourselves “Crib Colorists”. KC helped the ordinary become extraordinary.
What we do here is teach our Crib Colorist how to excel in color theory and the level system in order to properly color and maintain healthy hair. That is the goal... the main focus, whether you are coloring your hair in your own home or walking into to a salon. Not everyone feels comfortable coloring their strands at home… and to be quite honest most techniques definitely require a certain level of skill unless you are doing a root touch up or all over color. So why learn color theory if you're going to a salon? The answer is simple. You can save yourself from a hair coloring disaster. Unfortunately, not all hair colorists or stylists are created equal, in fact, some struggle to understand basic color theory. There is nothing more satisfying than asking your hair colorist the base or the major/minor tone of the hair color he/she is about to apply to your hair and seeing the bewildered look on their face. You must learn your "virgin or natural" pigments. That is what we refer to as DURP. Dominant / Underlying /Remaining / Pigment... but we will get into all of that and more topics at a later time... this is just the intro.
You can join our FaceBook group for more tips and ask questions amongst the other Crib Colorists and Professionals. We would love to see you there!
